My work lets me meet lots of different people who are involved in fisheries or who love the sea. I am involved in the human side of science – once all the science and research has been done I look at how this can actually be put into place in the real world. It is important to consider how we can protect our seas from damage to make sure we don’t catch all the fish or damage the seabed permanently. But it is also important to make sure that we talk to the fishermen and the people who live on the coast to make sure that we can maintain fishing industies and protect fishing communities.
-
My Typical Day:
Most of the time I am either working at my desk or in meetings all over Europe talking to lots of different people.
-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I would use the money to develop education materials for our charity to bring the sea side to schools.

Friendly, geeky and creative.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
yes (but not as much as my brother)
Who is your favourite singer or band?
my favourite band is Frightened Rabbit.
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
I wish I could do more hands on work in the sea, I wish I could spend more time with my nephews in Scotland and I wish that I had enough money to do all the travelling I want to do.
Tell us a joke.
What did the salmon say when he swam in to a wall? Damn!
